Healthcare systems striving to become Efficient and Secure

HIMSS Latin America Conference and Exhibition in São Paulo as eHealth Governance, Cybersecurity and Innovation top agenda

Latin American healthcare leaders and international experts will assemble in São Paulo next month to discuss how technology can improve healthcare in ways never imagined before. The HIMSS Latin America Conference in association with ABCIS, will take place at the Grand HYATT São Paulo in Brazil on 4 to 5 November.

The event will discuss how healthcare services can improve with effective use of technology. Very often, the IT systems required to make meaningful improvements is inadequate or simply not in place. Therefore, in order to coordinate a strategic road
map, a panel of regional leaders will discuss how to establish governance to support information exchange and how government agencies can pool resources to make that giant leap and provide the best healthcare services possible.

Jeremy T. Bonfini, Executive Vice President, Global Services for HIMSS commented that “Healthcare systems are under real pressure to provide more and better care for less. The only solution is to become more efficient and that requires world-class IT systems.”

Leading healthcare organizations and systems will share their progress to the highest levels of IT adoption via an international benchmark called the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). The objective will be to recognise tangible progress being made and award those healthcare facilities which not only achieve but exceed quality standards and raise the industry bar.

“IT adoption is just the first step. Security and privacy is becoming a major challenge for healthcare organizations. Healthcare insurance fraud, payment fraud and identity theft are growing as cyber criminals are pilfering data from vulnerable hospitals and insurers at alarming rates. The first HIMSS Latin America Cyber Security Boot Camp will prepare CIOs to fight these cyber criminals,” said Andre Luiz de Almeida, President of ABCIS.

The Boot Camp will present the results of the first ever Latin American Cybersecurity  Survey to better understand the region’s preparedness to fight cyber thieves. Attendees will also receive a HIMSS Latin America Cybersecurity Boot Camp Certificate at the end of the Conference.

“We will be bringing Lisa Gallagher, Vice President, Technology Solutions, HIMSS - an international expert from the USA who is working with hospitals on the front line of the cyber wars - to present the very latest defences against cyber-attacks and resulting breaches of patient data,” said Bonfini.

HIMSS Latin America Conference will include another first – the HIMSS Latin America Healthcare Innovation Award. This session introduces the first ever rapid fire series of innovative healthcare practices and mHealth Innovations. Registered delegates from healthcare and governmental organizations will evaluate each demonstration and the highest ranked application will receive the HIMSS Latin America Healthcare Innovation Award.

As a fitting finale to the two-day conference, the HIMMS Latin America Healthcare Innovations Award Ceremony will take place, recognising excellence in innovative healthcare throughout the Brazil and the wider region.
